The Election Commission of Pakistan has directed the provincial and federal authorities to address the complaints of potential candidates in receiving and submission of nomination papers.

Taking serious notice of media reports and complaints regarding the snatching of nomination papers from candidates, the commission has directed all the provincial and federal capital authorities to take necessary action.

In this regard, the commission wrote letters to provincial chief secretaries, election commissioners, including the chief commissioner of Islamabad, and Inspectors General of Sindh and the federal capital to look into the matter.

The ECP further said that the commission has been mandated to hold free, fair and transparent elections and to make necessary arrangements to ensure that the election is conducted honestly, justly, fairly and in accordance with law and that corrupt practices are guarded against. It said all the executive authorities in the federation and provinces are under constitutional obligation to assist the Election Commission in the performance of its constitutional duties.
