Pakistan and United States have reaffirmed commitment to carry forward the agenda of improving policies, laws and regulations related to Intellectual Property.

The commitment was expressed during a high level visit of the US delegation led by IP Counselor for South Asia John Cabecca at IPO-Pakistan Headquarters in Islamabad.

The Pakistani side was led by Chair IPO Farukh Amil and Director General Shazia Adnan.

Speaking on the occasion, Chair IPO Farukh Amil said patents, trademarks and copyrights have an important role in economic growth and IPO-Pakistan already has taken several initiatives to improve Intellectual Property Rights regime in the country.

Regarding establishment of IP tribunals in the country, he informed the US delegation that two new IP tribunals have been established in Quetta and Rawalpindi and approval of two more has been granted.

In his remarks, US IP Counselor for South Asia John Cabecca informed that they are working for capacity building of IP related experts in the South Asia.

About the strengthening of IP enforcement system in Pakistan, he said that the US companies consider Pakistan as a safe place of investment.

He pledged to provide capacity building training and technical assistance to Pakistan.
