Magnitude 7.6 earthquake strikes Japan, tsunami warning issued

A massive earthquake of 7.6 magnitude hit Japan today triggering a tsunami warning.

According to media report, Japan Meteorological Agency has issued tsunami warnings for the coastal prefectures of Ishikawa, Niigata and Toyama.

Media reported that one meter high tsunami wave struck parts of the coast along the Sea of Japan forcing residents to evacuate to safer places.

It said dangerous tsunami waves of up to five metres high are likely to hit the north coast of central Japan within 300 km of the quake’s epicenter.

There were initially no reports of damage or casualties.
