An angry mob assaulted a person accused of blasphemy in Sargodha on Saturday morning.
The incident took place in Sargodha’s Mujahid Colony where a charged mob entered a house and vandalised the belongings over an alleged incident of blasphemy.
The police shifted the injured by an ambulance to some undisclosed location. The enraged mob also put a shoe factory built inside the home on fire and damaged the electric installations.
A heavy contingent of police including DPO, RPO and members of peace committee were in the area till last reports came in.
RPO Shariq Kamal said investigation was under way and stern action would be taken against the miscreants. Police arrested several suspects.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) expressed serious concern over the situation in Sargodha and urged the Punjab police and district administration to restore calm in the area and bring perpetrators to justice immediately.
Meanwhile, Punjab Home Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal left for Sargodha to inspect the site on the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Mengal will review the causes and the investigation of the incident, and has ordered all senior officers to investigate every aspect.
“Pakistan belongs to all of us; no injustice will be tolerated under the guise of religion. Action will be taken according to the law after a complete investigation,” Mengal was quoted as saying.
