Two weightlifters under the management of Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (Interim Committee) and Pakistan Sports Board have proceeded to Kazan on 10 June 2024. They include Haider Sultan (61 category) and Daniyal Aftab (89 category). They will be coached by Shujauddin Malik who is a Commonwealth Games 2006 gold medalist and record holder.Weightlifting competitions at the Games will be held from June 13 to 15 in Kazan.
Dr. Hafiz Zafar Iqbal (Member Interim Committee), Prof. Khizr Hayat Raja, Saqib Fayyaz, and other weightlifting friends sent the team off with good wishes. Dr. Hafiz Zafar Iqbal emphasized the players to demonstrate their best performance and raise the name of Pakistan. The officials and players thanked Secretary IPC, DG PSB and all officials / staff of Pakistan Sports Board for financial and administrative support to the team; and providing them the opportunity to represent Pakistan in the BRICS Games platform.
Dr Zafar also advised the young players to continue their training, with hard work and dedication, so that they are selected on merit to represent Pakistan in the upcoming international competitions. All future players will represent Pakistan on merit.
