Archbishop Dr Joseph Arshad, the Catholic Archbishop of Islamabad-Rawalpindi, stands as a symbol of hope, leadership, and transformation for Pakistan’s Christian community. Born into a modest Christian family, Archbishop Arshad dedicated his life to uplifting the youth, integrating faith, education, and national pride.

One of his most significant contributions has been the establishment of CSS preparation classes for Christian youth in the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Diocese. Recognising the systemic barriers that minority communities face in accessing top government positions, Archbishop Arshad initiated these educational programs to prepare young Christians for the competitive CSS exams. His dream is profound: he envisions a future where every Christian family produces at least one officer, a leader who will not only represent their faith but also their nation.

But Archbishop Arshad’s vision extends beyond academics. For the past five years, he has organised an annual cricket tournament specifically for Christian youth in the diocese. This event has become a cornerstone of his holistic approach to youth development. More than a sports competition, the cricket tournament is a celebration of unity, discipline, and positive values. Archbishop Arshad believes that sports can be a powerful vehicle for shaping responsible citizens—young people who are loyal to Pakistan, committed to their communities, and grounded in the spirit of sportsmanship.

He often reminds his youth that, in today’s world, they face immense challenges—especially the growing lure of drugs and excessive use of ICT. In contrast, these cricket tournaments offer a refuge—an opportunity for healthy recreation, strong friendships, and personal growth. Archbishop Arshad emphasises that sports do more than build muscles—they build character, instil discipline, and foster a sense of responsibility toward the nation.

In this holistic vision, Archbishop Arshad blends education, faith, and sports to create a dynamic generation of Christian youth. These young men and women, inspired by his leadership, are not only excelling in education and careers but also growing into confident citizens who embody loyalty, integrity, and a spirit of service to Pakistan. His legacy is a testament to the fact that when education and sports come together under the guidance of faith, they pave the way for a brighter, more united future.
