The Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWLF) Interim Committee, with the approval and support of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), has announced the National Weightlifting Championship for Men and Women, scheduled to be held in Lahore from July 10 to 15, 2026.
According to an official notification issued by the federation, the championship will take place at the PSB Training and Coaching Centre, Lahore, and will also serve as the final selection trials for Pakistan’s men’s team for the 20th Asian Games, set to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Teams representing services departments, including Army, HEC, Police, Railways and WAPDA, along with affiliated provincial and regional weightlifting associations, will participate in the event.
Competitions will be conducted in eight bodyweight categories each for men and women. The men’s categories include 60kg, 65kg, 71kg, 79kg, 88kg, 94kg, 110kg and over 110kg, while the women’s categories include 44kg, 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 77kg and over 77kg.
The championship will begin on July 10 with team arrivals, anti-doping awareness sessions and meetings of coaches, managers and technical officials. Competitive events will be held from July 11 to July 14.
The federation has directed all participating units to submit their entries by June 28, 2026. Officials emphasized that athletes who do not participate in the championship will not be considered for final selection for the Asian Games squad.
The Pakistan Weightlifting Federation also urged all stakeholders to strictly comply with International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), Anti-Doping Organization Pakistan (ADOP) and Pakistan Anti-Doping Board (PADB) regulations to ensure clean and fair competition.
The event is expected to bring together the country’s top weightlifters and play a crucial role in shaping Pakistan’s campaign for the 2026 Asian Games.
