President Asif Ali Zardari has called for greater investment in young people, women and children to transform Pakistan’s demographic potential into sustainable national development.
He expressed the views in his message on World Population Day that is being observed today.
The President said Pakistan’s large youth population presents a unique opportunity for progress if provided with quality education, healthcare, skills and employment.
He said empowering women is key to build stronger families and communities.
The President also paid tribute to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s vision of women’s empowerment, education and reproductive health, saying her legacy continues to inspire national development efforts.
He urged government institutions, parliamentarians, academia, civil society, development partners, religious leaders, the media and communities to work together for the health, wellbeing and empowerment of the people, reaffirming the commitment to building an inclusive, equitable and prosperous Pakistan.
