Radio Pakistan FM 101 aired a special edition of its literary program “Adab Nama” on the topic “Literature, Society and Humanity.” The program was hosted by Manzah Anwar Goindi and produced by Fariha Kanwal.
The panel featured poet and writer Mumtaz Arif, social activist Baba Shafiq Dogar, social leader Malik Aftab Awan, social worker Riffat Rani, social activist Javed Iqbal Bajwa, and Engineer Abid Hussain.
Speaking on the occasion, Mumtaz Arif said that although literature is not merely a collection of advice or sermons, every literary creation carries a message that promotes the spirit of humanity. He noted that many poets and writers have highlighted human rights and social issues through their poetry and prose.
Host Manzah Anwar Goindi discussed the impact of social issues on literature, saying that poetry represents the highest expression of humanity, allowing writers and poets to give voice to public emotions and concerns. Recalling the memorable Mushaira Kamran, organized by her late father Anwar Goindi, she said that people used to purchase tickets to attend the event, and the proceeds were donated to charitable causes, including the Red Cross and organizations serving visually impaired people.
Baba Shafiq Dogar said he has devoted more than thirty years to social welfare. His work has focused on shelter homes, eliminating child labour, supporting orphaned and destitute children, and helping beggars become self-reliant through small businesses, efforts he described as highly successful.
Malik Aftab Awan said literature and society have always been closely connected in his life. Inspired by his father’s dedication to literature, he has spent over three decades serving the public through various welfare organizations and community initiatives.
Javed Iqbal Bajwa highlighted his rehabilitation efforts for persons with disabilities, stating that hundreds of wheelchairs have been distributed under his welfare program, enabling physically challenged individuals to lead more independent lives. He acknowledged the support of civil society in making the initiative successful.
Riffat Rani described the management of shelter homes as a sensitive and demanding responsibility. She said she has worked extensively to rehabilitate vulnerable women and help them rebuild stable family lives, achieving encouraging results.
Engineer Abid Hussain said he has been working in the fields of education, child care, and character development. He added that his successful initiatives at SOS Village have had a positive impact on society.
The program concluded with Mumtaz Arif reciting his poetry, creating a deeply inspiring atmosphere, while Engineer Abid Hussain presented a poem highlighting the importance of serving humanity.
