Canadian tennis star Leylah Fernandez enjoyed an impressive run at the 2026 Singapore Open, claiming her first WTA title of the year and the sixth title of her career.
Fernandez defeated Australian Talia Gibson 7-5, 6-0 in the final to secure the championship. The victory also gave Fernandez her second WTA 500 title, following her 2025 Mubadala DC Open triumph.
The Canadian produced a strong campaign in Singapore, defeating Mirra Andreeva and Maja Chwalinska on her way to the final. Andreeva is the French Open champion, while Chwalinska was the French Open finalist.
The tournament also featured several unexpected developments. Jessica Pegula withdrew from the event, while Alexandra Eala suffered an upset defeat against Tatiana Prozorova.
Prozorova later suffered a concussion while playing doubles and was subsequently unable to compete in her singles semifinal.
Despite the unusual developments throughout the tournament, Fernandez completed her campaign by defeating Gibson in straight sets and securing another WTA 500 title.
