Pakistan Peoples Party Human Rights Cell Secretary Information Tariq Mehmood Ghouri has strongly condemned the collapse of a school roof in Peshawar that claimed the lives of 34 children and demanded a high-level judicial inquiry into the tragedy.

In a statement, Ghouri described the incident as a sign of alleged criminal negligence and administrative failure, raising serious questions about the safety of school buildings and the state’s responsibility to protect children.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved families on behalf of the Human Rights Cell, he said the loss of children was an immeasurable tragedy. He prayed for the deceased children to be granted the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdous and for their families to be blessed with patience. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The PPP Human Rights Cell called for a high-level judicial inquiry, legal proceedings against those found responsible under relevant provisions concerning culpable homicide, and an immediate structural safety audit of all public and private school buildings across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

It also demanded the immediate suspension of the relevant Education Department officials and the contractor concerned, with their roles examined as part of the investigation.

Ghouri said the Pakistan Peoples Party would not allow the tragedy to be forgotten, stressing that children’s right to education could not be separated from their right to safety.

He urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to acknowledge the alleged failures, determine responsibility and ensure justice for the affected families.
