Green Corporate Livestock Initiative (GCLI) has established Pakistan’s first gender-sorted straw laboratory in Okara.
Through this lab, farmers are being provided with high-quality gender-sorted straws at affordable prices. With gender-sorted straw technology, farmers can select the sex of animals at the time of artificial insemination.
In dairy farming, where female animals are of greater importance, this technology makes it possible to rapidly increase milk production. In the beef sector, selecting male animals leads to improved meat production.
Previously, gender-sorted straw was imported into Pakistan, which was expensive and available on a limited scale. Due to GCLI’s initiative, these straws are now easily accessible to ordinary farmers.
This step is opening new avenues for genetic improvement and economic growth in the livestock sector. To ensure the supply of high-quality straw, GCLI has imported world-renowned breeding bulls with superior traits from the United States, Brazil, Australia and other countries.
