Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the launch of a free dead body transportation service across the province for the first time.
The decision to this effect was taken at a special meeting chaired by the Chief Minister in Lahore today. Secretary Emergency Services, Dr. Rizwan Naseer, briefed the meeting on the proposed plan.
Under the initiative, free ambulance service will be provided to shift the dead body from hospital to the residence of the deceased.
At least one van will be available in each tehsil to transport the dead body from hospital to home. The bereaved families will be able to avail the free service by calling 1122 or through the hospital counter.
The service will be monitored through a smart management system to ensure transparency and efficiency. Facility for transporting the dead body from one city to another will also be provided free of cost.
The meeting also agreed in principle to regulate private ambulance services and reviewed a proposal to fix their service charges.
