Dhaka, 8 May 2026: Pakistan bowlers shared four wickets on the opening day of the first Test against Bangladesh as the hosts reached 301 for four in 85 overs at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Friday.
After Pakistan captain Shan Masood opted to bowl first, the visitors made a disciplined start with Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissing Mahmudul Hasan Joy for eight in the seventh over. Hasan Ali then removed Shadman Islam for 13 to reduce Bangladesh to 31 for two.
Bangladesh recovered through a 170-run third-wicket partnership between captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque. Left-handed batter Mominul struck 10 fours in his patient 91 off 200 balls before falling leg-before wicket to spinner Noman Ali in the 74th over.
Shanto scored 101 from 130 deliveries, hitting 12 fours and two sixes. Mohammad Abbas accounted for the Bangladesh skipper shortly after tea with Pakistan successfully overturning the on-field decision via DRS.
Pakistan’s bowlers maintained control despite the long partnerships, with Abbas returning economical figures of one for 51 in 22 overs, including seven maidens. Shaheen conceded 67 runs in his 19 overs while claiming one wicket.
At the close of play, Mushfiqur Rahim was unbeaten on 48, while Litton Das was batting on eight as Bangladesh added 100 runs in the final session for the loss of one wicket.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan handed Test caps to batters Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal.
