Pakistan has emphasized that the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and contiguous State of Palestine on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, remains the only guarantee for lasting peace in the region.

This was stated by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, while addressing the UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question.

The Ambassador expressed concerns over the situation in Gaza and the West Bank.

Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said it is time for the Security Council to undertake a holistic assessment of the situation across all of the occupied Palestinian territory and firmly tackle the obstacles to peace.
