Komal Khan scored her second fifty of the tournament to lead Stars to a 21-run win over Conquerors who went top of the table with one match to go, while Invincibles thrashed Strikers by 10 wickets as the eighth round of National Women’s U19 Tournament concluded in Karachi on Sunday.
The last two rounds of the tournament will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday with the final scheduled for Friday. Currently Challengers are second with two games left for them, while Conquerors are third with one game left.
At the National Bank of Pakistan Sports Complex, Stars opted to bat and posted 135-2 in the allotted 20 overs with Komal remaining unbeaten for 86 off 64 balls striking 10 fours and one six. She shared a 50-run second-wicket stand with Emaan Afridi (14, 21b, 1×4) and then an unbeaten 80-run stand with Aqsa Habib (30 not out, 34b, 3x4s).
In reply, Conquerors were restricted to 114-6 in 20 overs with Samiya Afsar’s 45-ball 64 going in vain. Conquerors’ opening duo of Samiya and Malaika Suhani (30, 43b, 3x4s) put on 96 runs before they lost six for 20 as none of the batters below got into double figures.
Samiya struck six fours and three sixes in her outing before becoming one of the three victims of Aqsa, who finished with 3-22 in her four overs. Afsheen Imran also snapped three wickets and gave away only 15 runs in her four overs.
At the Oval Academy Ground, Strikers could only manage 89-8 in 20 overs, which the Invincibles chased down with 45 balls to spare and all 10 wickets in the bag.
Strikers’ openers Areesha Ansari (28, 39b, 4x4s) and Ravail Farhan (23, 22b, 3x4s) put on 51 runs but then they lost eight for 39 with Zoofishan Ayyaz and Maham Nazakat picking up similar figures of 2-11. Alzoha Hammad and Lubaba Mehmood dismissed one batter each.
In response, Raahima Syed (39 not out, 42b, 2x4s, 2x6s) and player of the match Zoofishan (37 not out, 33b, 4x4s, 1×6) reached the 90-run target in 12.3 overs.
