United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres arrived in Islamabad on Monday on an official visit to Pakistan.

Acting Foreign Secretary Ambassador Nabeel Munir received the UN chief upon his arrival. Guterres is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the UN secretary-general will remain in Pakistan until October 8. During his visit, he is scheduled to meet President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.

Guterres will also meet Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir.

The meetings will provide an opportunity to discuss regional and global developments, while Pakistan will highlight its efforts to promote international peace and security.

The UN secretary-general will also be briefed on Pakistan’s progress in disaster management and the development of early warning systems.
