Dr. Shafaq Manzoor, a faculty member at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, has emphasized that the media must become the voice of ordinary people and marginalized communities. She said that whether it is traditional media or the rapidly growing social media, highlighting the problems of underprivileged segments of society and representing their concerns should remain the media’s top priority.
Speaking on the occasion of PhD scholar Zaheeruddin Babar’s doctoral dissertation defense, Dr. Shafaq Manzoor stressed the need for media professionals to understand emerging trends and adapt to the rapidly changing media landscape. Referring to the challenges faced by male and female journalists, she said that media professionals must pay particular attention to evolving circumstances and the growing demands of their profession.
Responding to a question, Dr. Shafaq Manzoor observed that rapid technological advancements had transformed the media’s methods and modes of operation, but its fundamental responsibilities remained unchanged. She emphasized that the media should prioritize providing fact-based information, highlighting public issues, and effectively representing the concerns of disadvantaged communities.
It is worth mentioning that three of Dr. Shafaq Manzoor’s students have recently defended their PhD dissertations successfully. With these three successful doctoral defenses, she has achieved a notable milestone among faculty members.
