Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said providing relief to the downtrodden segments of the society is priority of the government.

Talking to Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Shazia Marri in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said that targeted subsidy will be given on flour, sugar, ghee/edible oil, pulses and rice in the next fiscal year. He said all relevant ministries must ensure that this subsidy reaches the deserving people.

The Prime Minister also directed the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety to develop a comprehensive strategy in cooperation with the Ministries of Finance and Industries and Production for the targeted subsidy.

Shazia Marri apprised the Prime Minister of the progress on different projects being executed under Benazir Income Support Program.
