Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday reiterated his claim of playing a mediatory role in defusing tensions between India and Pakistan, asserting once again that he helped stop a potential war between the two nuclear-armed nations. Speaking to the media outside the White House, Trump also expressed strong sentiments for Pakistan, saying, “I love Pakistan.”
“I stopped the war between Pakistan and India. I love Pakistan,” Trump stated. “I spoke to Modi last night. We can now make a trade deal with him. But I stopped the war between India and Pakistan.”
Trump further praised the role of Pakistan’s military leadership, specifically highlighting Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir. He described General Munir as an “influential figure” who played a significant role in averting conflict on Pakistan’s behalf.
