Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the need to bring the housing sector under regulatory framework to attract foreign investment in it.

Chairing a meeting regarding housing sector in Islamabad, he said providing housing for low-income groups, affordable housing projects including encouragement of the private sector, and improvement of public facilities are among government’s priorities.

Shehbaz Sharif said reforms in the housing sector are necessary in view of the growing population. He noted that due to growing population and unplanned urban sprawl, pressure on agricultural land is increasing, which requires an appropriate strategy.

He said all matters in the housing sector will be digitized and automated to promote transparency.

On the occasion, proposals were presented regarding reforms in the housing sector. It was informed that strategy will also be devised to prevent unplanned urban expansion.

The meeting was informed that high rise buildings and vertical expansion will be encouraged in major cities.
