Pakistan and the United States have agreed to explore further opportunities for cooperation in petroleum and energy sectors.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State S. Paul Kapur.

During the meeting, Ali Pervaiz Malik briefed the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State on ongoing reforms in Pakistan’s energy sector.

He explained that the reforms aim to increase reliance on local resources, enhance efficiency, and create a favourable environment for foreign investment.

The Minister also noted that, for the first time, Pakistan has imported six million barrels of crude oil from the United States.

He highlighted further areas of collaboration in port infrastructure, storage facilities, and refinery upgradation. He added that joint ventures could also be pursued in the oil and gas exploration and minerals sectors.

In his remarks, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State said that the recent warmth in bilateral relations could be leveraged to build a strong economic partnership.
