Although Noorpur Thal was granted the status of a tehsil on July 1, 1982, Malik Muhammad Hayat Joiya had already established himself in the field of journalism long before that milestone. Following the creation of the tehsil, his sincere efforts led to the establishment of the Noorpur Thal Press Club, where he earned the distinction of becoming its founding member and first President. This was not merely the creation of an organization but the establishment of an institution that later became the cornerstone of the region’s journalistic identity and provided a strong platform for local journalists.
The founding members of the Press Club included M. Noor Din, Chaudhry Abdul Sattar, Muhammad Yaseen Shakir, and Zafar Ali Awan. Over time, many journalists, including the writer of this article, joined the organization. Under Malik Muhammad Hayat Joiya’s visionary leadership, exceptional organizational skills, and inclusive approach, the Press Club evolved into a respected, active, and influential institution.
He served with distinction as a journalist for Daily Nawa-i-Waqt and several other national and regional newspapers. His writings consistently focused on public issues, regional development, social justice, and the national interest. He not only highlighted the problems faced by the people but also played a significant role in bringing them to the attention of the authorities, contributing to the resolution of numerous public issues.
Within journalistic circles, Malik Muhammad Hayat Joiya is rightly regarded as an institution in himself. Through his mentorship and guidance, countless young journalists learned the principles of ethical journalism, news reporting, investigative writing, and responsible communication. Many of his students are now serving in prominent media organizations across Pakistan, reflecting his lasting intellectual and professional influence.
During his tenure as President, the Noorpur Thal Press Club strengthened its reputation not only within the district but also across Punjab as a well-organized and highly respected journalistic body. His leadership fostered strong working relationships between the Press Club, the District Administration of Khushab, and the Tehsil Administration, resulting in significant progress in addressing various public issues.
One of the most memorable moments of his presidency was the official oath-taking ceremony of the Noorpur Thal Press Club, held at the Town Committee Hall. The then District Nazim of Khushab, Malik Muhammad Ehsanullah Tiwana, attended as the chief guest and administered the oath to the office-bearers of the Press Club. The writer of this article had the honor of serving as the master of ceremonies for the prestigious event. The ceremony was also attended by the then President of the District Press Club Joharabad, renowned legal expert Hafiz Khan Muhammad Mahel, senior administrative officers, and prominent political and social personalities, reflecting the growing stature and significance of the Press Club.
In addition to journalism, Malik Muhammad Hayat Joiya rendered invaluable services in the field of education. As a dedicated teacher, he served the Education Department for many years with distinction. His students are now contributing successfully in various professions both in Pakistan and abroad, which stands as one of the greatest achievements of any educator.
He has also remained actively involved in social welfare. As the General Secretary of the TB Welfare Association, Tehsil Noorpur Thal, he worked tirelessly for the treatment and welfare of tuberculosis patients. During this mission, he received valuable support from the then President of the Association, Advocate Malik Naimatullah Gahi. Serving humanity has always been one of the defining purposes of his life.
Even today, despite his vast experience and advancing age, Malik Muhammad Hayat Joiya continues to mentor young journalists, encourage ethical journalism, and promote the highest professional standards. His personality is a remarkable blend of sincerity, humility, integrity, and dedication to public service.
