Iran has expressed interest in expanding trade and economic cooperation with Pakistan through the ports of Karachi and Gwadar.
The interest was expressed by Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Atabak while co-chairing along with Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan the 10th session of Pakistan-Iran Joint Trade Committee in Islamabad.
He said Iran places the highest priority on expanding comprehensive cooperation particularly with the brotherly nation of Pakistan.
The Iranian Minister said that negotiations on Iran-Pakistan free trade agreement are progressing well, expressing the confidence that these will be concluded successfully in the near future.
In his remarks on the occasion, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan said that operationalizing joint border markets is vital to bolster local livelihoods.
He noted that the private sector in both Pakistan and Iran trusts each other and stand ready to trade. He said it is our duty to provide them with a seamless, structured and predictable environment.
The Minister for Commerce emphasized the need for finalizing such roadmaps that move economic partnership between Pakistan and Iran to new heights.
