A dignified flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the University of Lahore, Sargodha Campus, to commemorate Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day. The ceremony began with an impressive parade by the security forces’ guards, after which Professor Dr. Ghulam Yasin, Pro-Rector, University of Lahore Sargodha Campus, hoisted the national flag.
Special prayers were offered for peace, security, progress and prosperity in the country. Following the national anthem, Dr. Sharafat Ali, Head of the Department of Islamic Studies, was honoured to recite verses from the Holy Quran. Mrs. Faiza Shabbir, Assistant Professor of Biotechnology, presented the patriotic song “Watan Ki Mitti Gawah Rehna,” filling the atmosphere with patriotic spirit.
A calligraphy competition was also organized under the supervision of Dr. Samina Gul, Head of the Department of Urdu. Professor Dr. Ghulam Yasin inaugurated the competition by writing the word “Pakistan.” The participants then competed in writing the word Pakistan in an artistic and beautiful manner.
Zain-ul-Abideen from the Accounts Department secured first position and was awarded a cash prize. Muhammad Riaz from the Transport Department won second position and received books as his prize, while Talha secured third position. Honorary prizes were also distributed among other participants who demonstrated outstanding performance.
Maria Sundas, Lecturer in the Department of English, performed the duties of stage secretary. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Professor Dr. Ghulam Yasin, along with the university staff, cut a cake decorated with the Pakistani flag, adding to the celebrations of Independence Day.
