Pakistan has categorically rejected the baseless and unwarranted assertions made by India’s Ministry of External Affairs regarding a resolution on Jammu and Kashmir adopted by OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.
This was stated by Foreign Office Spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan while replying to a question at his weekly media briefing in Islamabad today.
The Spokesperson said Pakistan appreciates the resolution adopted at the 52nd session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Baghdad, which reflects the collective and long-standing stance of OIC member states on Jammu and Kashmir dispute, firmly grounded in the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
He said the resolution has rejected India’s unilateral measures to alter internationally recognized disputed status of the Jammu and Kashmir region. It reaffirmed continued political, moral and diplomatic support for Kashmiri people until the realization of their inalienable right to self-determination, in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Sajjad Haider Khan said the continued principled support of the OIC is an important reaffirmation that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains an internationally recognized dispute and India’s portrayal of OIC’s collective position is misleading and dismisses the legitimate concerns shared by the international community.
The Foreign Office Spokesperson said rather than questioning the legitimate concerns, India is well advised to fulfill its international obligations, respect the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people and create conditions for a peaceful resolution of the dispute as per the UN Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
Answering another question, Sajjad Haider Khan said matters related to the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, its ratification and operationalization remained under discussion by the three parties during the recent meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee.
The Spokesperson said each country follows its own constitutional and legal procedures for the approval and ratification of international agreements. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have already completed their processes of ratification, while Türkiye is now undertaking the requisite procedure in accordance with its domestic and legal framework.
The Spokesperson said Pakistan remains fully committed in the letter and spirit to the agreement, which is defensive in nature, consistent with the United Nations Charter, and aimed at promoting regional peace, security and stability.
