Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhary has invited the opposition parties to sit with the government for a strong, safe and prosperous Pakistan.

Responding to the points raised by Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Gohar Ali Khan in the National Assembly today, he said the government does not believe in confrontation but reconciliation. He said the Prime Minister has always tried to take all the parties along.

The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs explained in detail the reasons for imposing Governor’s Rule and emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said action is being taken against terrorist elements and those challenging the writ of the state in the province.

He said the government has also approved a grant of one hundred and sixty billion rupees for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said, in the first phase, the capacity of the provincial police would be enhanced to effectively combat terrorism.

He said the funds would also be spent on health, education and infrastructure development, as well as on projects that have remained pending for more than twelve years.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Tariq Fazal Chaudhary said Governor’s Rule would remain in place for six months, while the emergency would continue until peace is restored in the province.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly was informed that a comprehensive programme is being implemented for the early diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis.

Responding to a Calling Attention Notice, Parliamentary Secretary for National Health Services Nelson Azeem said teams conduct door-to-door visits to identify tuberculosis patients and ensure their timely treatment.

He said the treatment for tuberculosis is available at the level of basic health units. He said these efforts are helping reduce the number of tuberculosis cases and deaths.
