Titled “Scope of Women’s Political Participation: Status, Concerns and Prospects,” the research presents a comparative analysis of women’s political participation in Bangladesh, Malawi, Mozambique, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. It provides an in-depth examination of the barriers and challenges women encounter in the political process, along with possible solutions to promote their effective participation.
According to Malik Ghazanfar Wadhil Tiwana, it is a matter of great honour for him to be the first Pakistani researcher to conduct this particular type of comparative study covering five countries. He also undertook a comprehensive review of their constitutions, electoral laws, and available research material concerning women’s participation in the political process.
He stated that the primary objective of the research was to examine the experiences and electoral systems of different countries comparatively and identify ways to remove the obstacles hindering women’s effective and meaningful political participation. He expressed hope that the study would provide valuable insights and academic guidance to policymakers, researchers, democratic institutions, and civil society, while helping them formulate effective strategies for the future.
Malik Ghazanfar Wadhil Tiwana also extended special thanks to the Commonwealth of Learning, Canada, and all those concerned for their cooperation, confidence, and guidance throughout the research project. He said their support had been invaluable in completing this important academic endeavour.
