‘3 new submarine cables laid to enhance internet connectivity’

Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja says three new submarine cables have been laid to enhance internet connectivity in the country.

Responding to a question during the Question Hour in the National Assembly this afternoon, she said measures are being taken for the fiberization of mobile towers to enhance connectivity.

The Minister further said the six hundred MHz spectrum auction will be held on Tuesday and the process will be broadcast live to ensure transparency. She said this will double the internet speed in Pakistan. She expressed the confidence that 5G services will be available in five major cities by the end of this year.

Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the government will take all possible cybersecurity measures as it cannot compromise on the country’s digital boundaries. She said securing the country’s digital boundaries is a matter of Pakistan’s national security and the government is committed to upgrading these measures.

Answering another question, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said initiatives under the Special Investment Facilitation Centre have brought investment worth billions of dollars.

Responding to a Calling Attention Notice, Parliamentary Secretary for National Health Services Nelson Azeem informed the House that the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan is currently examining a vaccine developed for the treatment of the Hepatitis Delta Virus.

He further stated that the HPV vaccine is being administered to girls aged nine to fourteen years. He added that an awareness campaign is also being conducted to highlight the importance of HPV vaccination.

The House passed “The National Accountability (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

It was moved by Mah Jabeen Khan Abbasi.

The House will now meet tomorrow at 11 in the morning.
