Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has approved formation of a task force on waste-to-energy production.
The task force will formulate a national waste-to-energy policy for the country, besides promoting private sector participation and establishing a clear strategy, institutional framework, and roadmap to advance waste-to-energy projects.
Federal Minister for the Power Division, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, will serve as the convener of the task force.
The task force will review the existing framework for waste-to-energy production in Pakistan, study international best practices, and identify legal, regulatory, financial, and operational hurdles in the sector.
The task force’s mandate also includes recommending measures such as new legislation and regulatory reforms related to waste-to-energy.
Additionally, it will propose steps to facilitate investment, enhance coordination, and support the effective implementation of waste-to-energy initiatives across the country.
