The Punjab Theatre Artists Association has been established to promote family theatre in Punjab. The first formal meeting of the association was held at Lawrence Garden.
According to renowned writer Adeel Abbas Adil, the meeting was attended by theatre artists, writers, directors, trainers, and theatre activists from across the province.
The participants discussed practical measures for the revival of family theatre in Punjab, activation of drama societies at colleges and universities, uniting young theatre artists on a common platform, and safeguarding theatre and performing artists.
The attendees also agreed to make the prevention of vulgarity and unethical trends in the name of commercial theatre a key part of the association’s manifesto. They assured their full cooperation for strengthening the newly formed Punjab Theatre Artists Association.
Artists stated that theatre serves as a nursery for the performing arts, particularly for the television drama and film industry. They emphasized that the Punjab government should take serious steps for the revival of family theatre. They further demanded that educated and professional individuals be encouraged in the theatre sector and that artists be provided with governmental support to strengthen them economically and socially, enabling Pakistan’s art industry to progress according to international standards.
Among those who attended the meeting were young writer and radio, film, and theatre artist Ali Usman Bajwa, playwright Tanveer Malik, writer and director Adeel Abbas Adil, playwright and director Farooq Pasha, theatre trainer and storyteller Waqas Manzoor, theatre artist and activist Hasnain Qasuri, painter and theatre artist Umrao, film and TV artist Musa Khan, and young theatre artist and student activist Umar, along with several other artists.
