Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed immediate integration of federal institutions with the newly established national data centre, Sky 47, to strengthen digital governance.
He was chairing a review meeting in Islamabad today on the implementation of the National Digital Policy Framework.
The Prime Minister said a single national data centre for the public sector would provide a centralized platform for government data, eliminate the need for separate data centres across institutions and save national resources.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan Digital Authority is providing a dynamic and transformative direction for digital governance and public service delivery.
He appreciated the progress made under the three pillars of the National Digital Vision i.e. digital economy, digital public services and digital government services.
The Prime Minister directed that the National Digital Vision be implemented on a priority basis in the health, agriculture, utilities, housing and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) sectors to ensure early delivery of improved public services.
Once fully implemented, the initiative would enable citizens to access a wide range of services, including government document verification, banking, healthcare, transfers and other public services through a single digital identity.
The Prime Minister also directed that a meeting of the National Digital Commission be convened at the earliest to take all stakeholders, including the provinces, into confidence on the implementation of the policy.
The meeting was informed that implementation of the National Digital Vision has already begun in the priority sectors, while work is also underway in 14 additional sectors. It was briefed that the initiative would improve sectoral performance, boost economic activity and support industrial and commercial growth.
The meeting was further informed that the digital housing system would introduce a central identification number for all public and private properties, while the digital framework for SMEs will establish a unified legal identity system for businesses.
The participants were also informed that legal, administrative and institutional measures for implementing the National Digital Vision are being completed on a fast-track basis, drawing on international best practices and expert input.
