Police Martyrs’ Day is being observed today to honour police officers and personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty and to express solidarity with their families.
Special ceremonies, guards of honour, and wreath-laying ceremonies are being held at police lines and memorials across the country.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have paid heartfelt tribute to the brave officers and personnel of Pakistan Police who embraced martyrdom for the sake of peace and security of the homeland.
In their separate messages on Police Martyrs’ Day, both leaders said that their exemplary courage, firm dedication, and ultimate sacrifice in the service of the nation will always inspire pride and command the deepest respect of every citizen of Pakistan.
In his message, the President said that the police force remains on the front lines of the fight against crime, terrorism, and violent extremism.
Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed his resolve to further strengthen and better equip police institutions through enhanced training, the application of modern technology, and by enabling them to perform their duties with efficiency, confidence, and honour.
In his message, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said ensuring the welfare and every possible support for the families of police martyrs is the government’s foremost responsibility.
He said the government is fully committed to assisting the families of police martyrs, including through the provision of quality education, the best healthcare facilities, and other welfare initiatives.
