Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to enhance its engagement with the African Continent, particularly in the economic and trade domains.   

He was virtually addressing an event hosted by Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad to commemorate “Africa Day,” marking the 59th anniversary of the African Union.

The Foreign Minister said Pakistan is proud of the political and diplomatic support it extended to freedom movements of African nations in the past.

He stressed that the revitalization of diplomatic outreach to the African Continent is  an important pillar of Pakistan “Engage Africa” initiative.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari extended heartiest felicitations on the part of Pakistani government and people to the people of Africa on the occasion.

The Day is a celebration of the African nations’ heroic struggle against colonialism, racism, and apartheid, as well as the richness of their civilization and the strides they have made since achieving emancipation from colonial rule.  

Speaking at the event, Secretary General East Africa Community Dr. Peter Mathuki appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic and economic support for African countries through the decades, making particular note of Pakistan’s contributions to UN peacekeeping operations in Africa.

Over 500 guests from 35 African countries attended the event.
