The official spokesperson of the government and Coordinator to the Prime Minister, Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan, said that the government actively working to provide more relief to the people on electricity.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of Mobiz regional office here on Friday, Rana promised that the nation will soon hear good news regarding relief on electricity bills as the government is negotiating with Independent Power Plants (IPPs) to reduce their capacity charges by using local coal. In addition, Rana announced, the government has allocated Rs 50 billion to provide relief to lower income people in electricity bills. Prominent business leaders, media representatives, and government officials were present.


Rana Ehsan Afzal stated that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is aware of the people’s difficulties and plans to provide relief to the salaried class, as the federal government is working to reduce expenses. He said that the government is actively pursuing its agenda of promoting exports and privatizing institutions including PIA and power distribution companies. He hoped that the privatization of electricity distribution companies will reduce energy losses. Rana clarified that the government has to made unpopular decision of enhancing taxes on salaried class due to being in the IMF program.
