Din Muhammad, the legendary wrestler who won Pakistan’s first-ever gold medal at the 1954 Asian Games, has passed away. He was over 100 years old at the time of his death.

Hailing from the outskirts of Lahore, in the Batapur area, Din Muhammad made history by raising Pakistan’s flag high at the Asian Games in Manila. During the event, he triumphed over wrestlers from the Philippines, India, and Japan to claim the coveted gold medal.

Apart from his historic achievement at the Asian Games, Din Muhammad also represented Pakistan at several international tournaments, earning a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games, among other accolades.

The news of his passing has left the sports community in mourning. Provincial Sports Minister, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, and DG Sports Punjab, Khizar Afzal Chaudhry, expressed their deep sorrow over his demise. The Sports Minister acknowledged Din Muhammad’s invaluable contributions to the country, saying that his achievements in wrestling had greatly elevated Pakistan’s stature on the international stage.

Din Muhammad’s legacy as one of Pakistan’s most revered athletes will forever be etched in the annals of the nation’s sports history.
