
Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima has said the government will soon unveil 5G spectrum policy.
Addressing the 26th meeting of South Asia Telecommunication Regulators Council in Islamabad today, she said Pakistan will be auctioning over 600 MHz of spectrum that will not only improve the current 3G and 4G services but also introduce 5G.
She said telecom infrastructure sharing framework has been approved while satellite communication regulations have been finalized which will bring satellite internet connectivity to the country.
Shaza Fatima emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring digital access for all citizens. In this regard, she mentioned that the Smartphones for All policy is being finalized to make devices more affordable and accessible to every person.
Reflecting on Pakistan’s digital progress, she highlighted significant milestones including reaching 200 million mobile subscribers and 150 million mobile broadband users. She said data traffic has surged by seventy percent over the last five years, while the telecom sector has experienced a seventeen percent year-on-year revenue growth.
The Minister also noted that e-commerce is reaching almost 7.7 billion dollars and projected to cross ten billion dollars next year.
