Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has said meetings with prisoners are meant solely for legal consultation, not for defaming the military, its leadership, or desecrating martyrs.

Speaking in the National Assembly on Monday, he emphasized that any meeting with a prisoner will be conducted strictly in accordance with the jail manual, and no unlawful demands will be entertained.

The Minister recalled that political opponents were victimized during the PTI government. He noted that the PTI founder, during his visit to the United States, had remarked that he would remove air-conditioners from the cells of detained political opponents.

He added that they endured bitterness and hardships throughout the PTI’s tenure.
