Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says adequate reserves of petroleum products are available to meet the country’s needs as a result of government’s timely decisions.
He was presiding over a meeting in Lahore today to review the implementation of fuel conservation and austerity measures in view of the regional situation.
The Prime Minister said government accorded top priority to provide relief to the people in prevailing circumstances and maximum relief was extended to masses over the last three weeks.
Shehbaz Sharif said the federal government has allocated a substantial sum of one hundred and twenty-five billion rupees by making cuts in various savings and development budgets to prevent skyrocketing of fuel prices and to protect public from direct impacts of global tensions.
The Prime Minister also directed the provincial governments to provide all possible facilitation to motorcycle and rickshaw owners to register their vehicles in their own names.
He said this initiative will help digitize the data of motorcycles and rickshaws across the country, allowing their owners to benefit from government-provided relief in the future.
He also directed the relevant authorities to expedite coordination with the Chief Secretaries of all four provinces, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Participants of the meeting urged the public to support the government’s austerity drive, minimize unnecessary travel, and prioritize teleconferencing at offices and workplaces.
The meeting was informed that the demand and supply of petroleum products and the entire supply chain are being monitored regularly. It was further told that a digital dashboard has been developed for this purpose.
The meeting was apprised that arrangements for the import of petrol for next month have already been made.
It was said that Pakistan, unlike other countries, is not facing long queues or mismanagement in fuel supply, which reflects government’s effective administration.
