Andreeva rallies to win Linz Open title after comeback against Potapova

Mirra Andreeva battled back from a poor opening set to defeat home favourite Anastasia Potapova 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 and claim the Linz Open crown on Sunday.

The top seed and world No. 10 started slowly, committing a series of unforced errors as Potapova raced through the first set, breaking twice to take it comfortably 6-1.

But Andreeva responded with greater aggression and composure in the second set, immediately shifting momentum by securing consecutive breaks to move ahead 3-2 before holding firm to level the match 6-4.

In the deciding set, the 18-year-old maintained control on serve and capitalised on Potapova’s mounting errors, pulling away to seal victory and lift her second title of the year.

The win adds to Andreeva’s strong season, following her earlier triumph at the Adelaide International, and takes her career tally to five WTA titles as she builds form ahead of the French Open.

Potapova, who was aiming to win the tournament for a second time, praised the atmosphere despite the defeat, thanking the crowd for their support throughout the week.

The result marks another statement win for Andreeva, who continues her rapid rise on the WTA Tour.
