A special program focusing on agricultural education, modern research, food security, and the future of agriculture in Pakistan was broadcast on FM 101 Radio Pakistan Sargodha’s renowned program, “Shaheen Sargodha.” The guest speaker was Professor Dr. Ejaz Rasool Noorka, Principal of the College of Agriculture, University of Sargodha.

During the program, Professor Dr. Ejaz Rasool Noorka elaborated on the establishment, objectives, academic activities, and research contributions of the College of Agriculture. He stated that the institution is committed to promoting modern agricultural education and research while providing students with education that meets international standards.

He explained that, in addition to undergraduate (BS) programs, the college successfully offers MS/MPhil and PhD programs aimed at promoting high-quality research. He further noted that the University of Sargodha hosts both national and international students, reflecting the institution’s strong academic and research standards. He added that the university welcomes students from abroad and offers them excellent opportunities for higher education and research.

The discussion also covered various degree programs offered by the College of Agriculture, career opportunities for young people, agribusiness, food security, and modern agricultural technologies.

Highlighting the challenges facing Pakistan’s agricultural sector, Professor Dr. Noorka said that climate change, water scarcity, protection of agricultural land, the food requirements of a rapidly growing population, and the adoption of modern technologies are among the major issues confronting agriculture today. He emphasized that research-based agriculture is essential for sustainable development and long-term food security.

He also discussed the notable achievements of the University of Sargodha and the College of Agriculture, stating that the institution is playing a significant role in national development through advanced research, scientific farming practices, agricultural innovation, and farmer-friendly initiatives. He provided detailed information about the college’s various departments, research projects, and outreach programs.

Professor Dr. Noorka further explained that one of the university’s primary objectives is to transfer research findings directly to farmers so they can benefit from modern agricultural knowledge and scientific farming methods. To achieve this goal, the university regularly organizes outreach programs and training activities.

The program also featured a detailed discussion on Sargodha’s internationally renowned citrus sector. Professor Dr. Noorka stated that the Centre of Excellence for Citrus at the University of Sargodha, in collaboration with the Sargodha Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is providing valuable services in citrus production, quality improvement, disease diagnosis, exports, and international certification. He noted that the center is playing a key role in strengthening the citrus industry on modern scientific foundations and providing growers with advanced facilities and guidance.

Questions from listeners were also answered during the program, and valuable information regarding agricultural education and research was shared.
