First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari has expressed full support for the establishment of Sindh’s first public-sector Comprehensive Stroke Centre at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) to strengthen specialized stroke car.
She expressed this while attending a briefing in Karachi today on the vision and implementation roadmap for the proposed facility by Professor of Neurology at the University of Toledo Dr. Syed Fazal Zaidi and Chairman of the Patient Aid Foundation Mushtaq Chapra.
During the briefing, the First Lady was informed that Sindh records an estimated 500 stroke cases every day, including around 50 severe cases requiring highly specialized care.
The meeting was informed that the proposed center will be established under the Pakistan Stroke Initiative in collaboration with the Patient Aid Foundation, JPMC and the Government of Sindh.
It will provide advanced stroke treatment, specialist training and research, while serving as the hub of a province-wide tele-stroke network.
Appreciating the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders, the First Lady said strengthening specialized stroke services would help reduce preventable deaths and lifelong disabilities and improve patient outcomes.
