In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the horrific memories of the 1990 Pattan massacre continue to haunt survivors and the families of victims even after the passage of thirty-six years, while justice remains elusive.
According to Kashmir Media Service, at least twelve innocent Kashmiris were martyred and eighty-two others injured when Indian Army personnel opened indiscriminate fire in the busy Pattan market in Baramulla district on August 1, 1990.
Recalling the tragedy, the survivors told media persons that on August 1, 1990, an Indian Army convoy was on its way to Srinagar from Baramulla when one of its vehicles suffered a tyre burst on the damaged Pattan road. Mistaking the sound for an attack, troops opened indiscriminate fire for several minutes.
Meanwhile, In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Indian forces, in their continued acts of state terrorism, martyred twenty-one Kashmiris during the first seven months of the current year.
According to data released today by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, Indian forces and notorious agencies arrested four thousand six hundred and fifty civilians, including youth, students, and women, during the period.
At least fifty Kashmiris were also injured after Indian troops used brute force against civilians.
On the other hand, two non-local persons were killed after unidentified gunmen opened fire on them in the Kelam area of Kulgam district.
