A special orientation and training session under the “One Person, One Teacher” programme was organized through a joint collaboration between the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) and the University of Education Lahore, Joharabad Campus. The session aimed to brief students about the objectives and methodology of the programme and highlight the role of youth in eliminating illiteracy.

Member of the National Assembly from District Khushab, Malik Shakir Bashir Awan, was the chief guest, while Professor Dr. Muhammad Ikramullah, Principal, University of Education Lahore, Joharabad Campus, also attended the event. Muhammad Ramzan Bodrana, Deputy Director NCHD; Muhammad Asif Joiya, Assistant Director NCHD; NCHD field officers; Dr. Naeem Sarwar, Coordinator of the “One Person, One Teacher” Programme at the University of Education Joharabad Campus; faculty members; and a large number of students were also present.

The training session highlighted the role of young people in promoting literacy and providing education to individuals who are unable to read and write. Students were informed that, on a voluntary basis, they could teach at least one illiterate person basic reading, writing and numeracy skills.

Chief Guest Malik Shakir Bashir Awan appreciated the programme and said that education is a fundamental right of every individual. He emphasized that every educated person should take responsibility for educating at least one other person. Professor Dr. Muhammad Ikramullah said that providing young people with opportunities to contribute to the educational development of society was an important need of the time.

At the conclusion, the participants expressed their resolve to play their full role in eliminating illiteracy, promoting education and making the national educational campaign a success.
