The federal government has decided to reduce the prices of petrol and diesel by twenty-two rupees per litre each as an Eid gift for the people on the third day of Eid-ul-Azha.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Friday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said he had promised the nation that relief would be provided to the people as soon as fiscal space was created, and that promise has now been fulfilled.

He said providing relief to the masses remains one of his top priorities. He noted that the government had also reduced petroleum prices last week to facilitate the public.
The statement said the federal government continued providing relief to the people even in the most difficult circumstances and extended fuel subsidies to users of public and goods transport, motorcycles and rickshaws.
It added that while people in some countries of the region had to wait in long queues to obtain fuel, timely measures taken by the Prime Minister ensured the uninterrupted availability of petrol and diesel in Pakistan.
The statement further said that despite a sharp increase in international oil prices during the global oil crisis, the Prime Minister provided a substantial subsidy to prevent an increase in domestic petroleum prices and ensure relief for the people.
