Radio Pakistan Sargodha FM 101 aired a special awareness programme, “Shaheen Sargodha,” focusing on the services of the Social Welfare Department, the welfare of persons with disabilities, and various social welfare initiatives of the Government of Punjab. Ms. Asma Manzoor, Assistant Director Social Welfare, Sargodha, participated as the guest speaker.
During the programme, Ms. Asma Manzoor explained the objectives of the Social Welfare Department, the public services it provides, and the ongoing initiatives for the welfare of persons with disabilities, women, children, and other vulnerable segments of society. She said that, in line with the vision of the Government of Punjab, the department is playing an effective role in providing support, rehabilitation, and empowerment to underprivileged communities.
She informed listeners that the procedure for obtaining a Disability Certificate and the Himmat Card has been made simple and convenient. Citizens can submit online applications through www.dpmis.gov.pk�, while assistance and application submission facilities are also available at the relevant Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals and Social Welfare Department offices. After a medical assessment, applicants are categorised as “Fit for Work” or “Not Fit for Work,” enabling them to receive benefits according to their eligibility.
Ms. Manzoor stated that under the Punjab Government’s Himmat Card Programme, eligible persons with disabilities receive financial assistance of PKR 10,500 every three months, which can be withdrawn through the Bank of Punjab. She added that citizens can obtain information, guidance, or register complaints regarding the Himmat Card by calling the 1312 helpline.
She also introduced the ADWC App, explaining that it provides guidance and information regarding various Social Welfare Department services. Information about facilities and welfare cards available for minority communities was also shared, while further assistance can be obtained through the 1040 helpline.
Ms. Manzoor said that the Divisional Directorate of the Social Welfare Department is located in New Satellite Town, Sargodha, where the offices of the Divisional Director and Deputy Director are situated. In addition, district and tehsil-level offices are functioning across the division, providing information, registration services, guidance, and access to various welfare programmes.
She also highlighted the services provided through Dar-ul-Aman, the Children’s Home, Sanatzar, Shelter Home, wheelchair distribution programmes, and other welfare initiatives. She noted that the Shelter Home in Sargodha is currently providing safe accommodation, food, legal assistance, and other essential facilities to approximately 50 women, ensuring a secure and dignified environment until their issues are resolved.
She further revealed that around 33 registered non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are affiliated with the Social Welfare Department office located on Water Supply Road, Block 25, Sargodha. These organisations actively collaborate with the department in social welfare projects, disaster relief activities, and various public service initiatives.
Ms. Manzoor also informed listeners that the Children’s Home provides accommodation, education, care, and training for children aged 4 to 18 years, while Sanatzar equips women and girls with vocational and technical skills to help them achieve economic independence.
A large number of listeners participated in the programme through telephone calls, asking questions about the Himmat Card, Disability Certificates, Social Welfare Department services, the welfare of women and children, the rights of persons with disabilities, and other social welfare initiatives. Ms. Manzoor responded to each query with detailed and informative answers.
Listeners highly appreciated Radio Pakistan Sargodha’s initiative in promoting public awareness, stating that such programmes not only provide authentic information but also strengthen communication between government institutions and the public.
