Pakistan’s Fatima Zahra has made history by winning a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games, becoming the first Pakistani woman to claim a boxing medal in the history of the event.
Competing in the women’s 60kg category, Fatima Zahra was defeated by her Canadian opponent in the semifinal.
The Canadian boxer led 4-1 after the opening round. The referee stopped the contest in the second round, confirming Fatima Zahra’s place as a bronze medalist.
Her achievement also marks Pakistan’s first boxing medal at the Commonwealth Games since 2014.
Earlier in the tournament, Fatima Zahra secured her place in the semifinals by defeating Jordan Wilson of New Zealand in the women’s 60kg quarterfinal. Her historic bronze medal represents a landmark moment for Pakistani boxing and women’s sport.
