Abdullah Shafique struck an unbeaten century and captain Babar Azam scored a fluent 86 not out as Pakistan closed day two of the second Test against West Indies on 266 for two at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Pakistan trail West Indies’ first-innings total of 344 by 78 runs, with Abdullah and Babar having added an unbroken 168 runs for the third wicket.
After West Indies resumed on 239 for five, Pakistan’s bowlers claimed the remaining five wickets for 105 runs. Roston Chase scored 70 off 126 balls, while Justin Greaves added nine runs to his overnight score before departing for 73.
Ali Usman provided Pakistan with the first breakthrough of the morning when Greaves’ leading edge was safely held by debutant Awais Zafar. Ubaid Shah then removed Chase with his first delivery of the day before Sajid Khan wrapped up the innings.
Sajid finished as Pakistan’s most successful bowler with four wickets for 85 runs, while Mohammad Ali, Ubaid and Ali Usman claimed two wickets apiece.
Pakistan began their reply positively despite losing Imam-ul-Haq for 14. Azan Awais, maintained the momentum with an attacking 55 off 71 balls, which included 10 fours.
Following Azan’s dismissal at 98 for two, Abdullah and Babar took complete control of proceedings. The pair combined solid defence with regular scoring opportunities to keep the West Indies bowlers under pressure throughout the final two sessions.
Abdullah reached his sixth Test century and his first since 2024, from 173 balls. He ended the day unbeaten on 107 off 185 balls, having struck 10 fours and two sixes.
Babar remained composed at the other end, reaching his half-century from 67 balls. Pakistan captain closed on 86 not out from 126 balls, with 10 fours and a six and will resume on day three 14 runs short of his 10th Test hundred.
