The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has officially suspended the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWLF), which was previously headed by Mr. Hafiz Imran Butt. This decision was taken during the 25th Board Meeting of the PSB held on July 6, 2022, and was formally communicated through Notification No. F.7-82/2024-PSB(NF) dated October 31, 2024.
The suspension is based on the findings of a delegate appointed by the PSB, following the directions of the Hon’ble Lahore High Court. The investigation revealed serious administrative and financial irregularities, violations of the Anti-Doping Code, and general mismanagement in the functioning of the Federation.
To ensure proper oversight and continuity of the sport, the PSB has constituted an Interim Committee to manage all affairs related to weightlifting in Pakistan. The committee comprises Brigadier (Retired) Zahid Iqbal as Chairman, Colonel (Retired) Dr. Hafiz Zafar Iqbal, and Ms. Nuzhat Jabeen as members.
It has come to the notice of the PSB that certain individuals, including Mr. Jabran Bin Salman, Mr. Hafiz Imran Butt, and Mr. Irfan Butt, have been unlawfully using the name, logo, and identity of the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation. These individuals are allegedly making unauthorized announcements, misrepresenting themselves as officials, spreading misinformation, and misusing the names of PSB-appointed officials and Interim Committee members.
These activities are not only illegal and in violation of the PSB’s suspension orders but may also amount to offences under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016. Formal complaints have already been lodged with the appropriate forums.
The PSB has issued a strict advisory to all government departments, provincial and regional sports boards, sponsors, media outlets, and the general public to refrain from interacting with or recognizing the suspended Pakistan Weightlifting Federation or any individuals claiming to act on its behalf. Any events, statements, or appointments made by such persons should be considered unauthorized.
Only the Interim Committee appointed by the Pakistan Sports Board is recognized and authorized to conduct and represent weightlifting activities in Pakistan. Any individual or institution found engaging with the suspended Federation does so at their own risk and may face legal consequences.
