Iranian officials have confirmed that key nuclear facilities were evacuated before U.S. airstrikes targeted them late Friday night. The statement comes shortly after former U.S. President Donald Trump announced that American forces had launched successful attacks on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
An Iranian official stated that the Fordow nuclear site was directly targeted, with additional strikes occurring near the Natanz and Isfahan facilities. However, the official emphasized that all targeted locations had been cleared of personnel and sensitive material prior to the attacks.
“There was no nuclear material at the sites that could have caused a radiological leak,” the official said, noting that precautionary measures were taken as tensions escalated.
The development follows President Trump’s declaration on Truth Social that U.S. forces had struck three Iranian nuclear sites, claiming a complete destruction of the Fordow facility. Iran’s confirmation of preemptive evacuation appears to be aimed at downplaying the strategic impact of the U.S. operation.
